Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Teenage pregnancy remains a significant social issue in many parts of Nigeria, including Ganye Local Government Area, Adamawa State. Broadcasting, particularly through radio and television, has been identified as a powerful tool for raising awareness and promoting behaviors that prevent teenage pregnancies. Through informative programs, discussions, and public service announcements, broadcasting can educate young people about sexual and reproductive health, the consequences of early pregnancies, and the importance of family planning. In Ganye LGA, media campaigns have been used to target adolescents, parents, and community leaders to reduce the rates of teenage pregnancy and improve reproductive health knowledge (Ali & Garba, 2023; Bello & Yusuf, 2024). This study explores the role of broadcasting in preventing teenage pregnancy in Ganye LGA and assesses the effectiveness of media campaigns in changing attitudes and behaviors related to early pregnancies.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the efforts of various stakeholders to reduce teenage pregnancies, Ganye LGA continues to experience a high rate of early pregnancies among adolescents. While broadcasting has been used to raise awareness, there is limited research on the effectiveness of these broadcasts in preventing teenage pregnancies. This study seeks to investigate the role of broadcasting in preventing teenage pregnancy in Ganye LGA and evaluate the impact of media campaigns on adolescent behavior.

This study will provide valuable insights into the role of broadcasting in preventing teenage pregnancy, offering recommendations for improving media campaigns aimed at reducing early pregnancies. The findings will be useful for policymakers, health organizations, and media practitioners working to address the issue of teenage pregnancy in Ganye LGA and similar regions.
